This is my third Tortuga backpack—it slots in nicely between the smaller Laptop Backpack (great for EDC & weekend trips) and the larger 40L Travel Backpack for longer trips.
This Expandable Backpack is supposed to replace my eBags Mother Lode as a “Goldilocks” bag that can adapt to a variety of different trips.
This bag is way more comfortable to wear than my last expandable bag, and the straps stow neatly for when you need to carry it by the handles instead. This backpack has a better bottle holder, and the overall padding level provides structure so it doesn’t feel floppy at all.
Expanding the bag makes a difference: I was able to fit 4 days worth of bulky cold-weather clothes plus a winter parka on my last trip.
This is more expensive than the bag it is replacing, but it feels like a more premium bag as well.
